WEIGHT LOSS -WHAT IT REALLY MEANS

Most of us will judge our health purely on the basis of our weight on the scale.

Every time you have a medical condition, you will be told- “You have to lose weight”. But no one told you what that weight really meant.

Your body weight is made up of your fat, muscle and bone weight. Never judge your health based on what the scale shows. What you have to know is the fat weight in your body (fat percentage ). A sportsman who weighs more might will have a very low fat percentage as compared to a model who weighs less. The model may have a very high fat percentage which won’t show on the scale whereas the sportsman may have a higher lean mass percentage which will show as more weight on the scale. It’s simply because fats weigh lighter than lean mass of muscle and bones.
Fat percentage for men is below 20% and for women below 25%.
When you crash diet or take weight loss pills or do not workout, what weight you lose is purely the essential lean mass while your fats are still there. Also understand that fats are not metabolically active, bur muscles and bones are so when you lose fats and gain good lean mass due to a balanced routine of healthy eating and exercise, you actually look toned and slimmer. When you lose lean mass, you look flabby even though you might have lost weight.

So, anything that guarantees you weight loss without exercise, with pills or some unheard of restricted diet will only guarantee loss of health.
